Ryerson ITSDC - Security re: Laptops
I am concerned that as we move to a laptop
environment, students be made aware of how to protect those from
theft. As you probably know, we have a serious problem with theft on
campus of laptops, fax machines, computers, etc; but many laptops
have gone missing from this campus in the last few years. This is
happening because people wander in off the street and see them left
unattended in the library, on the shelves in washrooms, etc. and they
walk away with them to sell them on the street. Last year I saw a
person selling equipment on a street corner which still had the Ryerson
red sticker on them!! Too, other students steal them and then inflict a
disfiguration which makes it look like their own on the outside. As you
move forward with this laptop learning for students, please build in
some sessions on how to protect those from theft. Just a thought.
